Freelance, Journalist, Non-fiction
Studied Creative Writing at Nottingham Trent University (B.A. and M.A.) after working in the arts and publishing. Particular interests: classical music/opera; loss/bereavement/trauma psychology; gender and sexuality. Foreign correspondent for Strings magazine from 1998.

Publications
Radio: 'Dear Bill, Dearest Liz' - series of four programmes written and presented by the author on BBC Radio 3. Music Press: Feature articles in 'British Bandsman', 'Classical Music', 'Double Reed News', 'Soundscapes' (Australia) and 'Strings' (U.S.). Concert Programme Notes/Features: Anglian Chamber Orchestra, Norfolk and Norwich Festival Souvenir programme, Nottingham Classics Concert Series. Features in 'Autoworld' (The Renault Magazine) and 'The Pink Paper'. 'Divas... In Their Own Words' (Vernon Press, 2000); co-author of Kyra Vayne's 'A Voice Reborn' (Arcadia Books, 1999); contributor to 'Violin Virtuosos' (String Letter Publishing, 2000).

Poet: Published in Journals etc since 1987, first full length collection accepted 1997. subject matters often landscape.
Critic/Researcher: PhD in early 20th C. Literature research specialism is poetry and English music 1890-1925 articles published occasionally.

Publications
'The Georgian Poets' (British Council/Northcote House, 1999; 'Newborough County' (Shoestring Press, 2000); 'Secret Villages' (Flambard Press forthcoming, 2001).
Performance Work
Occasional bookings as part of poetry events: most recently for writers in Peterborough, October 1999. Not really "a performance poet" but used to working as part of a joint reading.

Children's Writer
Writes fiction for children and teenagers. Especially likes writing texts for picture books and novels. Won the Kathleen Fidler Award for 'Diamond', the Independent Story of the Year for 'Kevin the Blue' and been shortlisted for Children's Book Award for 'The Snow Whale'. Won national Arts Council Writers Award for Silkscreen, a novel set in Derbyshire, as is Mine.

Reading at Waterstones Bookshop. Writer in Residence for Learning Through Arts Done Project.

Availability
I prefer to work in local schools and need plenty of notice. I read to nursery/playgroup/infant/junior and secondary and will talk and suggest ways of working (to almost anyone!).
