Started Kettering/Corby Writers' Group 1981 and Wellingborough
1983. Ran Corby Writers' Workshop 1985-1993 and has led writing
groups in adult education centres, unemployed centres, centres
for recovering mentally ill people and schools. Poet of the Year,
Northamptonshire, 1985. Awarded East Midlands Arts Writers' bursary
in 1985 and Hawthornden Fellowship in 1995. Prizewinner in the
1991 National Poetry Competition. Co-ordinator for the 1994 New
Voices Tour. Shortlisted for the Forward 2000 best individual
poem.
Publications
Poetry broadcast on Radio 4 and published in various magazines
and anthologies, including 'The Observer', 'The Spectator', 'New
Statesman', 'Gay Times', 'Ambit', 'The North' and a Faber anthology
'Hard Lines 2'. Poetry pamphlets: 'No Green Leaves' (with David
Amery) Tower Hamlets Arts Project (1979); 'The Tunes of Risky
Weather' (NENARTS, 1985); 'Journey to a Birth' Folio Booklet Series
(1987); 'The Wolf's Tale' (Waldean Press, 1995). First full-length
collection 'Warpaint Angel' (Blackwater Press, 1997)
Performance Work
Involved in numerous poetry readings in London and the East Midlands,
including the first 'New Voices' Tour in 1989. Leicester Poetry
Society 1997/98 Programme (Jan 1998); Live Poets' Society (Uppingham)
1997/98 Programme (April 1998).

Writer
Has been writing children's fiction for over 25 years, beginning
with short stories and work for comics (Mandy etc.) then moving
on to Christian novels, picture and novelty books for the general
market and educational publishing. Also works for women's interest
magazines and social stationery publishers (e.g. Exleys).

Can drive to venues in the Rutland and rural (adjacent) Leicestershire
areas, but would need public transport access to other parts of
the East Midlands. May and late September/early October are usually

Biography,

Kettering poet, part-time teacher. Began being interested in poetry
when a mature student at Ruskin College, Oxford. Works as a volunteer
with the mental health charity Mind; co-ordinator of their poetry
and reading/writing group: editor of their anthology. Currently
working on pantomime project.

Born in Wellingborough 1936. Winner of the H.E. Bates Short Story
Award 1986. Work featured on BBC television. Special interests
include natural history and the modern short story.

1975). Children's Books: 'Hannibal' Series (Ladybird 1976-8);
'Children of the Wind' (Moonraker, 1980). Short Stories in various

Poet
Has been writing poems for 30 years. Has also written for radio's
'The Huddlines', T.V.'s 'Two Ronnies', The Grumbleweeds and parodies
for Scottish comedian/entertainer Jimmy Logan. Appeared on Radio
Derby on National Poetry Day in 1998.
Publications
Four small books of mainly comic poems ('Versed Aid', 'The Ruby
Hat of Old Ma Kyam', 'More A-Musings' and 'More Verse or Worse')
financed and sold on behalf of Melbourne Male Voice Choir. 1000
copies of first three sold, 400 so far of latest. Published in
'Chat', 'My Weekly', Derby Evening Telegraph etc.
Performance Work
Perform at all choir concerts. Occasional items on Radio Derby.
Wishes to follow up recent workshop work with local schools.
