As
yet there is no regular newsletter, but Sarah does have a mailing
list which she is nurturing, and which she uses to send out regular
mailings about projects in Leicester City. Where possible, Sarah
would like to be able to contact people by email so she can send
out information electronically and thus save lots of time, paper

Short
biography
Born and bred in Manchester, Sarah has always loved books and
reading. She recently fulfilled a life ambition to read English
Literature at Cambridge University, and graduated in June 2000.
Her principal interests are literature, travel, international
development and human rights issues. She began work as Literature
Development Officer for Leicester City in January 2001.
Areas
of activity
The literature development officer for Leicester works to:

Support reader development activity in city libraries.
-
Support creative writing activities throughout the city.

Support national and city festivals and events, such as Black
History Season, Castle Park Festival, Leicester Comedy Festival,
National Poetry Day etc.

Organise a biennial literature festival. The next festival is
billed for October 2002.

Work with specific community groups to tackle issues of social
exclusion and celebrate the diversity of Leicester through the
medium of literature. There will be a focus on the refugee and
asylum seeker population of the city during 2001.

Develop the innovative use of ICT alongside literature development.
