of writing a publishable article. Topics covered will include finding viable ideas,
turning ideas into excellent articles, preparing a professional manuscript, editing
your manuscript, choosing an appropriate market, writing a great query letter,
and re-selling your articles as reprints. Your instructor will guide you step-by-step
from idea to finished piece as you pursue your dream of becoming a published writer.
This course includes a FREE induction week.
The tutor: Dr. Mary Ann L. Diorio
Dr. Mary Ann Diorio is an award-winning writer of fiction, poetry, plays,
and non-fiction for children and adults. Her work has appeared in over 100 publications
including The Saturday Evening Post, The Atlantic City Press, Decision, Moody
Monthly, Christian Parenting Today, Junior Trails, Zoomer & Co., and The Young
Generation Book of Short Stories. Dr. Diorio is also a nationally syndicated columnist
whose popular column, Winning with the Word, appears in newspapers throughout
the United States. She has authored six books and has contributed to three others.
She has also served as head writer for a television program for teens. Dr. Diorio
is Adjunct Professor of Writing and Public Speaking at Rowan University in Glassboro,
NJ. She lives in Millville, New Jersey, with her husband, two daughters, and their
beloved miniature Dachshund, Cocoa.

Typical assessments
Assessment #1: Write an article of 500-1500 words. Learning
Outcome: At the end of this course, you should be able to demonstrate an understanding
of the components of a good article by writing an article of 500-1500 words.
Assessment #2: Choose a market appropriate for your article. Learning Outcome
#2: By the end of this course, you should demonstrate the ability to analyze markets
and to choose one appropriate for your article.
Assessment #3: Write a query letter about your article. Learning Outcome: At the
end of this course, you should be able to demonstrate the ability to write a query
letter worthy of submission to an editor.
