Model of Celebration's first phase

Townhouses in Celebration

The most successful aspect of Celebration is the spatial composition of the streets set up by the Stern and Robinson master plan, with rhythm of open and enclosed spaces and harmonious ratios of heights and widths. The best patterns derive from English citites (and more recently from Seaside): the crescent, the curves of the townhouses, the long meadow, the hippodrome park, houses spaced around the circle surrounding a little woods. You feel how effective all this is when you are walking; when you are driving you don't notice the spatial effects as much.
