- The digital images in this collection were appropriated from the net or scanned or both and then manipulated following certain themes [ science fiction, religion, pop culture ] all relating to electronic soundscapes created by Steve Gibson [ including voice samples from popular movies and television]. The original webcast was cancelled at the last minute due to an insurance clause in the contract. A good thing too because we were nowhere near ready, even for the resulting performance. [ View a quicktime .mov of the performance. ] My feelings about it are mixed, but mostly it was a workshop not a work of art. I am reminded of lyrics by Leonard Cohen: Took my diamond to the pawnshop / But that don’t make it junk.
- There were technical problems - my computer died a messy death and destoyed dozens of images and animations. There was also the matter of having to learn new software. My collaborators did not seem at all interested in rehearsing, which troubled me because there was no chance to see how the images looked on a big screen, or how the midi keyboards activated them [ programming by Jim Andrews ]. Nevertheless, hundreds of images have been created and sorted into four groups, each group illustrating a particular soundscape. The next performance is slated for Sweden, sometime in August 2004 [ more details in a later update ]. As well, many of the images will form part of my presentation at trAce's Incubation Symposium in July 2004. For chronological notes on this project please refer to the updates index page.
- Because some of the .jpg sequences are now over 50 frames, animated .gifs are no longer practicable for presentation on the web. There are some RealPlayer [.ram/.rm] files but they don't loop as intended. A few animated .gifs are available - mostly excerpts. Thumbnail pages show certain key images that were manipulated to create sequences of images. There are four main pages or indexes of images:
