No final de 2002, comecei uma pesquisa etnográfica:

O QUE É UM ARTISTA?, perguntei à lista Webartery e a alguns outros artistas.

Fiz esta pergunta porque reparei que existe muita mitologia em torno da palavra ARTISTA. Por acaso você já viu um filme ou leu um livro sobre a biografia de um artista onde a personagem dele não seja uma pessoa OBSESSIVA e TORTURADA? Será que a imagem de um artista não é uma construção romântica e este romantismo persegue a nossa idéia do que seja um artista até hoje em dia? Ou talvez artistas sejam e tenham sido sempre pessoas torturadas, obsessivas, que trabalham não importando as condições que tenham para isso. Seria isto uma lenda? Ou um artista poderia ser uma pessoa normal?

Outro ponto é a relação entre artista e dinheiro. Antes de Web, eu pensava que somente os artistas do Brasil estavam tão preocupados em conseguir dinheiro com os seus trabalhos. Aqui, como sabemos, a maioria de nós deve ter outro trabalho, geralmente como professor, para sustentar nossas atividades artísticas. Existe até aquela piada que se um grupo de artistas está junto, nunca está conversando sobre Arte, mas sobre dinheiro, melhor falando - como conseguir dinheiro com Arte... Depois da Web, eu descobri que isso não acontece só no Brasil...

Eu posso constatar também que outro assunto importante para os artistas hoje ( e sempre?) é o reconhecimento. Hoje em dia este reconhecimento nem sempre precisa ser dinheiro, mas divulgação na mídia, publicação ou exposição do trabalho num lugar bem conceituado, às vezes, um é conseqüência do outro.

Talvez aquela lenda romântica sobre artistas que mencionei acima possa ser a causa desta relação complicada entre artista, dinheiro e reconhecimento? Isto é, a sociedade imagina que um artista não precisa de dinheiro ou reconhecimento para trabalhar, ou não vê a sua atividade como trabalho. Como fazer para mudar isso?

Como artista, eu sinto que o momento de criação é um dos melhores e uma das melhores sensações na vida. É como um vício, queremos sempre sentir novamente a magia daquele momento. (A necessidade de ser mais do que ser...)

Talvez, por causa disso, às vezes pense que seria realmente demais merecer tão grande sensação e ainda ganhar dinheiro com o produto dela... tal sensação não seria o pagamento? Os artistas gostam de trabalhar, você já pensou sobre isto? Todos os profissionais gostam de realizar seus trabalhos como os artistas gostam?

Bem todos estes são pensamentos (questões, não respostas) que eu tive enquanto observava Arte e artistas.

Esta seção do museu mostrará algumas das respostas que recebi e que ainda pretendo receber. A resposta de Clemente Padín. é política e reflete a sua Arte e sua postura na vida - sua identidade.

A resposta de Marcelo Frazão é bastante realista e denota uma experiência bem grande no lidar com Arte e artistas.

At the end of 2002, I begin an ethnographical research:

WHAT IS AN ARTIST?, I asked to Webartery list and to some other artists.

I did this question because I have repaired that there is a kind of mythology around the word ARTIST. Have you ever seen a film or read a biography of an artist where he/she was not an obsessive person?

Do not you think that the image of an artist was a romantic construction and
this romantism persecutes our idea of what an artist is until nowadays?

Or maybe artists are and have been really obsessive and tortured people? Is it a legend? Could an artist be a "normal" person?

Another point is a relation between artist and money. Before Web, I think
that only in Brazil artists were so worried about get money from their
works. Here, the majority of us must have another job, generally as a
teacher , ... to sustain our artistic activities. There is among us a
joke that if a group of artists are together, they are never speaking about Art, but about money, better speaking - how to get money from Art... After Web, I discover that it happens not only in Brazil... I can realize too that another important issue for artists is to get recognition and, nowadays,
this recognition can not be money, but midia divulgation or publication, sometimes one is consequence from the other.

Perhaps the romantic legend about artists could be the cause of this complicated relationship between artist and money?...

As an artist, I feel that the moment of creation is one of the best and
deepest sensation of life. It is like a vice, one always want to feel again the magic of this moment. (The necessity of being more than being...)

Perhaps, because of this, sometimes I think that it would be really too much to feel so great sensation and yet to earn money with the product of this... such sensation is not the payment? Artists like to work, have you
thought about this? All professionals like to do their works as artists like?

Well all of this are thoughts (questions) I have had while observing artists and Art.

This section of the museum will show some of the answers I got and that I will intend to get. Clemente Padín's answer is political and reflects his art and his posture in life.

The answer of Marcelo Frazão is very realistic and denotes his experience in working with Art and artists.
