My (former) office at Bates College

Finding our way amid the new unities of new kinds of places (Gardens at the Dwelling 01 exposition in Malmö, Sweden)

The three main directions of my writing in the last decade or so have been

(a) issues in the interpretation of Hegel and Heidegger, either concerning modernization and tradition, or concerning the purity of self-reflection and formal knowledge (which is a more abstract way of asking about modernization and tradition),

(b) architecture and urban planning, as examples of new modes of unity amid new dispersed modes of living,

(c) hypertext: new ways of doing scholarly writing, presenting and criticizing exposition and argument.

Those three directions all focus on issues about how to live in a new kind of world that has new kinds of unities, and this project about "places today" brought the three directions to bear on one another and on concrete issues.
