Rosemary Beach
Eight miles east along the coast, Rosemary Beach advertises itself as a new town ("On a perfect beach, a new town is taking shape"). It was designed by Duany-Plater-Zyberk, who planned Seaside years earlier. The land office at Rosemary Beach does not expect many permanent inhabitants; as in Seaside most houses will be used for vacation homes, and for short term rentals. The general layout resembles Seaside, but here the highway is further back from the water. There will be a larger town center, and Seaside's network of fenced paths is replaced by a few boardwalks with pocket parks. The spatial plans and modulations seem as well done as at Seaside, but the effect will be quite different; the whole feels denser and heavier.
