Themes come in degrees

Themes come with degrees of intensity and reach. They can vary in the force with which the theme asserts itself, and in how far the theme grammar reaches down into details of decor and action. An Irish-themed bar would have to serve Irish beer but might not use genuine Irish napkins.

Themes come in different spatial densities. For instance, at Epcot the Canadian section juxtaposes a few large Canadian building types, whereas the English section uses many smaller British objects.

Themes vary in the degree to which they are established and familiar, and in how often they are referred to by other themed places.

Finally, themes vary in their relation to the function of the place; the theme can merely add titillation, or it can provide deliberate incongruity, or selling and consuming the theme can absorb the whole being of the place.
