Living New Urbanism more broadly
Because New Urbanist developments are new kinds of places, and because their traditional aspects are located within a complex field that they cannot fully control, some developments may try to avoid that complexity, and encourage narrowness and self-enclosure.
Just as it is important to live themed places more broadly than their themes define, so it is important to live (and evaluate) New Urbanist communities in a more aware way within larger links and relations and tides.
The movement has no intention of denying those links and relations, though it wants to add kinds of density and centering within them.
