Spatial discontuity and complexity
Spatial discontinuity can add to complexity, but discontinuity is not enough by itself to bring complexity, since discontinuous areas could also be linked into a place by a linear set of actions that emphasized the serial self-sufficiency of each successive locale, as in many tourist bus itineraries.
