Robert Karimi
robertkarimi is a bilingual-hiphop-rockero- polisexual performance poet from Newark, and Union City, CA. He draws on his own mixed Iranian & Guatemalan heritage to tell stories in full-body rhythm that illuminate and celebrate how much mezclaje surrounds us in our everyday lives. His considers himself an hijo del soul and his chapbook:get down with your... muslim-catholic self to a funky disco beat, a chronicle of the spiritual journey of identity. He is the founder of ÀÁY QUE?! Press. He has performed in night clubs, bars, coffeehouses, hotel rooms, jazz clubs, theaters, high schools and universities all over the country. Winner of the 1995 San Antonio Poetry Slam , he has been published in Vi Aztlan and Red Palm. He currently teaches Poetry in Newark, CA.
