On a
day like today love is everything. As the last words of doomed men and
women reach out from phone messages offering, at the last, only love
for their dear ones, we fall silent in the face of their pain.
It's
not often that love features quite so strongly in the everyday news.
Dealing
with sorrow often takes a physical form: making soup, writing a poem,
weeding a garden, cleaning a room. For a weaver the impulse is to create
a fabric. For the Web weaver, a memorial in HTML. The Web is full of
shrines, now more than ever.
Producing
an art project could seem irrelevant in the face of such suffering (and
did, for several days). But one way of expressing love is in words,
and so I carried on and finished the project, and here, in this quiet
corner of Web Warp & Weft, maybe we can spare a thought or a prayer
for the victims, and make a resolution to spread a little love today.
