WRITE AWAY AND READ AWAY
East Midlands Arts’ Residential Courses
A programme of Residential Writing Courses for writers of all
levels and tutored Read Away Courses for those who love to read.
Situated in beautiful surroundings, the venue is Stanford Hall,
near Loughborough, Leicestershire. Stanford Hall was built in
1774 for the Sheriff of Nottingham and is a grade II listed building
set in 300 acres of protected parkland on the Leicestershire/Nottinghamshire
boundary. Easily accessible by road and rail, the venue will provide
single bedrooms with en-suite facilities and full catering for
all courses.
READ AWAY
A weekend retreat for readers (this is not a creative writing weekend). If you love reading, and want to meet kindred spirits, then this Read Away weekend is made for you. Participants will be asked to read specific novels prior to the course, as well as bringing along their own favourite read to share with the group.
WRITE AWAY
East Midlands Arts’ Residential Writing Retreats
A programme of three Residential Writing Courses for writers of all levels. You don’t have to be an established writer to benefit from a writers’ retreat. The only qualification you need to attend a ‘Write Away’ course is a commitment to and an enthusiasm for writing. The programme has been specially designed to allow writers to get away from it all and find time to concentrate on their particular writing talents under the guidance and support of specialist and experienced tutors.
Each ‘Write Away’ course offers workshops, surgeries and individual writing
time to a small and informal group. The intention is to promote
a relaxed working environment to encourage the sharing of skills,
ideas and experience. Course members can expect to work and socialise
with other committed writers in an intimate and supportive setting.
FEES AND GRANTS
The course fee for a Write Away or Read Away retreat which includes
meals, accommodation and tuition was £109 in 1999. Priority will
be given in the first instance to applicants living in the East
Midlands Arts funding region which comprises Leicestershire, Rutland,
Nottinghamshire, Northamptonshire, Lincolnshire and Derbyshire
(excluding the High Peak District). Late bookings/requests from
non-regional applicants will be accepted whenever possible but
all applicants are reminded that course places are limited.
In cases of real need a small number of access bursaries will be made available to writers living within the East Midlands Arts funding region.
