digital labor

We, as instructors, are responsible for ensuring that our students are aware of the apparatus under which they labor and for engaging them in strategic thinking about that apparatus.  Before entering the workforce, students need to be fully aware of how this apparatus functions.  Possessing a critical awareness of the connections between technology, institutional practices, and their own positions as subjects will allow students to have some leverage in shaping their own working conditions.  They very well may have a voice in determining how technology is used for a certain job.  Understanding the relationship between these variables can only help to make students more savvy workers.
