I slowed to a walk. I kept walking. I think my mouth was open. I had on no makeup and was wearing glasses. I had wanted to be dropdead beautiful when I saw him and say something witty, instead I looked dumb.

I had on a funny hat. A straw number with a prominent bill. Just yesterday someone at the Salvation Army careened out the door, and swaying yelled at me. "Hey, you look like a duck!" Ha, ha.
So when he called to ask me to go with him to the motel, I was flabbergasted. It was okay. Not great, kind of embarrassed. How can four years be satisfied in one afternoon. Impossible. Too much expectation. I thought he would have a penis decidedly green with an iridescent quality or wings. Something extraordinary. He did. He does. A decided curve like someone signaling a left hand turn. Your eyes drift in that direction. What have I missed, arrow toward the corner.
