Culhuacan was a town already settled in central Mexico when, according to Mexica legend, the Aztecs arrived. The Culhua allowed the Aztecs to live on marginal volcanic land in return for their service as warriors. When a Culhua lord gave a daughter to the Mexica, expecting her to be married to their leader, the Mexica instead sacrificed her to their gods. |
