On the great feast of the lords the human image, the ixiptla, of Xilonen, lady of the maize, died at dawn.

The women who danced painted their faces yellow, wore wreaths of flowers in their hair, and were pasted with red feathers. Xilonen was brought to the Temple of Cinteotl, and her head was severed.

The Mexica said:

"And when it was Hue Tecuilhuitl, there was dancing which was the particular task of women; old women, maidens, mature women, little girls. The maidens, who had looked upon no man, were plastered with feathers; their faces were painted."
