Downtown Vandalism Increases August 22. Page 6 A recent rash of rock flinging by vandals has alarmed many downtown residents and merchants. Over the past week a dozen reports have been made concerning people who have had rocks thrown at them, their cars and their businesses. Richard Kleinman, 22, was walking to his car from the State Armory Bar and Grill when he was struck semi-conscious by a three pound polished piece of flagstone. "I don't think it's funny," Kleinman said. "I had to get three stitches and it cost me sixty five bucks." Authorities say that the rash of stone throwing vandalisms may be the work of local gang "wannabes" or perhaps is a form of discontentment from a disgruntled individual. All the incidents have taken place within a three-block radius of the seven hundred block of 8th Avenue, but so far police have no solid suspects. |
