Cross Platform Poblems

Browser and PC versus MAC Issues (Christy1, 3/16/99 10:35:48 PM)

Looking at the Yale site's comparison of what text looks like on the Mac versus what it looks like on PC is quite revealing! Check out this page for a dramatic comparison. http://info.med.yale.edu/caim/manual/pages/font_face.ht ml Then, of course, there is the odd fact that although text appears larger on the PC than on the MAC, images appear smaller. Any other difficulties you have encountered or solutions will be greatly welcomed.

thanks for this link Christy ... and many others through out the topics, which I've bookmarked ... all right on point as to what I wanted to learn next :)

cross platform typeface issues can make working out line breaks and specialized text indents an absolute horror ... i'm grateful for anything that will help

Screen Grabs: Something else that has helped me check cross browser differences and Mac PC differences is the screen grab. One friend has been great about sending me images of problem pages. In case you don't know, here's how to do a screen grab! On the Mac hold down the shift key and Apple key and press the number 3, you will hear a click. The image, which will be in pict format, will be labelled Picture 1, additional pictures advance numerically. For my PC, I downloaded a program called HySnap. http://www.hyperionics.com/ Try it for free. The image is saved in jpg.

Jeffrey Zeldman addresses many cross platform issues and has many html tips. I always learn something when I go there. http://www.zeldman.com/maqf.html

For example, he talks about how to get borderless frames in Netscape and Explorer by including the coding for both.
