The Derelict Sensation - Hypertext Photo Essay
I found the perfect
spot in an upstairs bedroom.
Though what exactly I
found is impossible to
describe: a feeling, a
presence, or maybe just
the quality of light?
It took several minutes
to discover the best angle,
then I erected the tripod
and attached the camera.
I focused the lens and
sat by the window for
a few minutes to watch
the road. Finally, sure
that no one was approaching,
I disrobed and piled my
clothes beside the tripod,
set the timer on the camera
and moved into the picture.
Cauldron
& Net - Visual
Ingredients - These are the ingredients of my days, a new millennium smorgasbord of found objects, conflicting portions of hope and fear. The texts and sounds are interpretations of visual information layered within the images. Here are the barely perceptible clicks of a keyboard, contraptions of war, cloth and seaweed, disclaimers and evangelism, blood and dreams, distillations of memory.

Riding the Meridian
"Literature ... what is happening to literature? Only a year ago,
web writers were comfortable calling html-code-intensive works hypertext.
But now that term seems lacking, incapable of describing the myriad
technical approaches now available and the creative changes which working
in a web-specific medium has wrought. Rather than attempt to classify
the work in separate categories -- here is the text, here is the hypertext,
here is the concrete poem -- la -- what follows is a kaleidoscopic view
of the creative approaches being used today by some of our most innovative
writers. This is what we choose to call Lit [art] ure."

The Personalization of Complexity
A feature in TrAce's electronic magazine frAme, devoted to theory and
social commentary. This fifth edition, guest edited by Christy Sheffield
Sanford, takes as its theme Digital Labour: For Love or Money. The Personalization
of Complexity is the work of Marjorie Coverley Luesebrink, MFA (M.D.
Coverley). It "explores the ways in which each of our personal
computers have become idiosyncratic, individualized entities, only sometimes
manageable by the owners. Threaded voices question issues of error,
malfunction, and intricacy, suggesting that our "user-friendly" appliances
are neither universal, simple, nor standard--nor even particularly friendly,
any more."
Erewhon Project
"One hundred and twenty years after Higgs accidentally crossed
into the land of Erewhon, his great-great-grandson, Nosnibor Higgs,
opened a lodge to cater to mountain-climbers wishing to tackle Arowhena's
Challenge, the highest mountain in the Erewhonian mountain range. Today,
thirteen years later, Nosnibor's son, Senoj, continues to offer hospitality
to climbers and X-treme sports enthusiasts. One of the more significant
aids which Senoj provides is a brochure in which he has gathered together
all recent knowledge of Erewhon and which offers advice on surviving
an inadvertent trespass into that land."
Gimokud The Melting Soul
An online exhibition of collaborative digital artworks
visualizing an ancient Philippine myth depicting the
interrupted existence of the soul (or gimokud).
"Participants in the soul project were requested to upload
their souls (an image of themselves) and an object that they
would bring with them if they were to travel as a gimokud.
The recipients of their images, Digital Media students at the
University of the
Philippines College of Fine Arts and selected digital artists, would then create the
leaf vessel upon which their gimokud would reside."
