Preface to... THE OTHER OF THE EAR |
I've been called to give an account--a retro(pro)spective--of my Injury. While at Work. While at Work at my computer. Where I Work for Love. Not Money. The Injury is a simple one to describe: I hurt my neck by leaning my head forward while simultaneously pulling my head back. I wrenched my body in this mannerism repeatedly for months. In dis/order to better view my monitor. This forward & backward movement has caused some damage to the muscles in my neck (and perhaps the auditory nerve) and has contributed to a decrease in the flow of blood to my inner ears (the Four Canals in each ear and the Labyrinth). Hence, I experience/d intermittently what the medical establishment calls tinnitus and labyrinthitis. The Injury was a difficult one to live with: It was severe. At times, incapacitating. Until I realeyezed the sword of discovery & the couch of laughter. Now, I am back to writing again. Differantly. Differendly. With fewer investments in ressentiment! With more, in a comic frame. Without the Spirit of Gravity. With Floating. |
