"Tomorrow, something all together new will begin." Swann replies, to end the play, then walks to the bookshelf and pretends to look through the books. He is far more interested in the curios, the knick-knacks on the shelves. At random, he picks up a few of the objects --
The Venus of Willendorf, a brass labrys, a miniature plaster kouros -- and sets them on the table before him in the hopes of creating a believable tomorrow. He thinks he can do it, and feels the need to prove to Ariadne that there is nothing to worry about, that hope for "US", Swann and Ariadne is a lonely star, still set among the heavens.
