This is the dream of the red rock which stands in the exact specific center of the George Herriman tooniverse. Nothing else in the Creation has any color. Here mesas, cacti, clouds, krazy hanging rocks are all left blank. There is just this rock which is red.

Though in fact the rock is not just red but a stippled copia of colors: ruby, copper, gold, magenta, molasses, rust, ochre, burnt sienna, black and white and red all over. So many shades and tinctures that the inkwells run dry and Hearst has to float new bonds to bankroll an advanced color theory, putting the brakes on his dreams of world empire.
