PREFACE:
Lolli's Apartment is an experiment in the ruination of contexts and the reconstruction of this ruin; or, the gathering of its fragments. The piece brings together a selective yet varied set of resources. The first operation in such a project is the construction of something that can be ruined. In this case, the initial construction is an analect of texts and contexts.
Minoan Architecture and cult practices, Paul Klee's Twittering Machine, Friedriche Nietzsche's critiques of women and the Dionysian, Orphic hymns... All of these are touched upon in the piece.
Some references are obvious -- such as, the use of an excerpt from the floor plan of the Knossos Labyrinth as an architectural model for the navigation through Lolli's Apartment, and the hero's name being Fredrick Nietzsche (an impostor professor).
As I developed the space, the actual UI for Lolli's Apartment, I abandoned my notes -- all of the narrative fodder I had collected was off limits. This is the first loss, forgetting culture... When the UI was complete I began depositing fragments of text throughout the insinuated space of the Snake Goddess Sanctuary of the Knossos Labyrinth. The narrative, the meander is constructed by further textual adhesion and appendices attached to the initial deposits. Through association the first level texts both stimulated the memory of my notes and inspired improvisations of textual application (thus, this is a body of jazz).
In essence, the archaeology of the piece is built upon re-membering my notes to the architecture of the Knossos ruin.
You will get lost. Maybe find yourself going in circles... Most everything is active and will take you somewhere else.
