The Greek word “meta” can have several meanings. One is “beyond”. We see that meaning in the “Metaphysics” section of bookstores, full of writings about spiritural realms beyond the physical world. In that sense a meta-story would be a wider story, distinguished from a "backstory" by being about, not in the world of the story.
