Friction

Kwinter's claim that the Net has no friction too easily accepts the hype.

In fact the Internet is full of friction and cross currents and background noise. Some comes from sheer volume of communication, some from technical glitches and imperfections, some from intentional hacks, some from the cross-purposes of people talking and working together and opposed. It's true that there is a commercial intent toward seamless blocking out of what the producer or advertiser or space-creator doesn't want to be seen, but virtual worlds can be less thick walled than they might appear.
