Sister Stories was originally created in Storyspace, a powerful desktop hypertext authoring program that has existed since the1980s. The top level of lexia ("pages" in web terms) was laid out as above in reference to the Aztec calendar round. Color is used to indicate compass quadrants as we currently think of them. Bluish was used to indicate white in the north (Storyspace being unable to display a white "box"); red in the east; yellow or gold in the south; black in the west; and blue and green in the center where accounts of daily life and culture were placed. The web version of Sister Stories uses a different approach to organizing but still retains the same four-directions color significance. You can click on the above image to go to portions of Sister Stories relating to its calendar round position. <<<< return to Colors page |
