Specifying Basic Serial-Port Settings
        
 Use the Settings dialog box to specify the baud 
          rate, data bits, parity, stop bits, and flow-control settings for the 
          selected serial port.
        
 To specify serial-port settings
        
 1 In the Control Panel window, choose the 
          Ports icon.
          2 Double-click the port you want to use. Or press TAB to select 
          the port, and then press ALT+S to choose the Settings button.
          3 Change any settings you want.
          4 Choose the OK button.
          5 In the Ports dialog box, choose the Close button.
           
        
 Specifying Advanced Serial-Port Settings
        
 Use the Advanced Settings dialog box to specify 
          an base I/O port address and an interrupt request line (IRQ) for your 
          serial port.
        
 To set advanced port options
        
 1 In the Control Panel window, choose the 
          Ports icon.
          2 Double-click the port you want to use. Or press TAB to select 
          the port, and then press ALT+S to choose the Settings button.
          3 Choose the Advanced button.
          4 Change the base I/O port address if your serial-port hardware 
          uses address values other than the values that Windows for Workgroups 
          detects.
          5 If you are using a computer that cannot access COM1 and COM3 
          or COM2 and COM4 simultaneously, and you want to use these ports, specify 
          a unique IRQ number for each port. Make sure the IRQ address you specify 
          is not being used already.
          6 Choose the OK button. Any changes you make will not take effect 
          until you restart Windows for Workgroups.
          7 To make your changes take effect now, choose the Restart Now 
          button.
