Police patrols in the seven hundred block of 8th Avenue were ambushed last night by Mercurity City's infamous rock throwing bandits. Responding to a call of breaking glass at Crowbar Ford at 716 8th Street, police were met with a fusillade of stones thrown with enough force to shatter a patrol car windshield. Patrolman Skeet Deeber nearly lost control of his vehicle when a golfball size chunk of sandstone sprayed glass into his lap. "It scared me half to death. Then it made me mad." Deeber arrested a passing motorist for looking suspicious, but the motorist was promptly released with an apology from Deeber for his "overreaction." Police and private security groups continue to patrol the downtown area at night in hopes of nabbing the pesky bandits red handed. An overzealous group of off-duty businessmen were involved in a scuffle with a local theatre group by charges were not filed. "Things are tense downtown," said Police Captain Norvell S. Pinge. "You could say things are pretty worked up." Police plan another all night vigil tonight and hope to have the suspect or suspects behind bars by sun up. "That's the plan," remarked Captain Pinge.
