Last April I bought a house in Redwood City with a back deck and a telescope and these days as I stand outside looking through the eyepiece I can see how far I have come.  You have to stay very still to keep everything in focus.  Certain scientists believe there is a black hole in the center of the galaxy which would explain why all the stars are rushing inward, a fact I did not know.  I would like to watch the moons of Venus eclipse, which I'm told happens every thirty-one days.

A few weeks ago some of my old friends looked me up and when we went out for sushi they told me among other things that Ginnie Foot was working in a gift shop in Kauai now and that made sense to me.  They told me about a couple of more people; one who moved to Nebraska, another who lives in Studio City and writes theme songs for sit coms.  These are the people I'll never see again but it doesn't make me feel bad.  I seem to be drawn to them.  As dinner was winding down one of my friends asked me what I'd been doing with myself all this time but I couldn't go into all that.  Instead I just ate and ate as though the chopsticks were tied to my hand -- that's how hungry I was.
